Hello everyone,
Today, I want to share some strategies I use to overcome overthinking.
Despite my efforts to avoid overthinking, it still happens occasionally.
I’ve found that about 90% of these thoughts are unnecessary or revolve around past events or hypothetical situations that may never occur.
Here are the strategies I’ve found helpful:
- Immediate Awareness:
Whenever I catch myself overthinking, I immediately become aware of my thoughts. I then address them by repeating affirmations such as “These thoughts can’t solve anything” or “Stop thinking as they’re not likely to happen.” By redirecting my focus and repeating these phrases, I can stop the cycle of overthinking. - Physical Distraction:
One effective method I use is doing a headstand. When I’m in this position, I must focus on maintaining balance and preventing myself from falling. This intense concentration on my body distracts me from overthinking. - Meditation and Massage:
Another helpful strategy is to meditate for a short period, typically two minutes. Often, two minutes turns into five or ten minutes. During meditation, I focus solely on my breath, which helps quiet my mind and stop the cycle of overthinking. Additionally, I find that giving myself a gentle head massage with my fingers can be soothing. By focusing on the sensation and movement of my fingers, I can further distract myself from overthinking.
These simple steps have been effective in helping me overcome overthinking.
I’m always open to learning new tools and techniques, so please feel free to share your own strategies in the comments below.
Let’s support each other in overcoming overthinking.
