How to Find the Right Career #1

I attended a mending class yesterday, and it turned into another hobby of mine. This experience gave me another perspective on finding my future career. For the past 25 years, I’ve struggled to find my true passion. I have tried various jobs, turning my interests into careers, only to realize they weren’t the right fit. Here are my tips for finding the right career:

Tip #1: Try Out Different Interests
Explore subjects that interest you. Don’t be afraid to dive into new fields.

Tip #2: Differentiate Between Hobby and Career
Understand the difference between a hobby and a career. Just because you enjoy something doesn’t mean it should be your profession.

Tip #3: Move On if It’s Not Right
If you realize a job isn’t the right fit, don’t hesitate to move on to the next opportunity.

Tip #4: Regularly Review Your Progress
Consistently evaluate whether your career path is right for you. Regular follow-ups are essential. For example, I’ve tried many jobs, thinking each one was my true calling. I followed up regularly by writing assessment notes each morning. At the end of the month, I could clearly see if the job was right for me.

Through this process, I discovered that some careers were better suited as hobbies. For instance, I enjoyed the mending class, but journaling about it helped me realize it wasn’t my future career. During journaling, I asked myself questions such as: “Can I do this mending for the rest of my life?” and “How long will it take to become a professional in mending?” I imagined being an alteration person working in a studio all day. By turning many of my hobbies into potential careers, I’ve found my current job. While I’m not 100% satisfied, I keep trying new things that interest me.

At the moment, I’m enjoying coaching children’s ice hockey and will see if it could become my future career. Remember, if you don’t try, you’ll never know.
