Waking up early used to be a challenge for me. Even when I managed to get up on time, I often fell back asleep, especially after meditating. Meditation didn’t wake me up fully; instead, it made me feel sleepier.
I realized that waking up wasn’t just about my mind but also my body. My body wanted more rest, and I didn’t feel like moving in the morning. I found that starting with small movements helped me gradually wake up and feel energized.
The solution? Physical activity right after waking up. This simple habit changed my mornings, making them more productive and enjoyable.
Morning Activities to Stay Awake
1. Wash Dishes After Drinking Water
Start with a couple of glasses of water, then wash some dishes. The movement and standing help wake up your body.
2. Pet My Bunny, Fluffy
Playing with or petting my bunny, Fluffy, brings me joy and gets me moving. It’s a light, cheerful start to the day.
3. Practice Hockey Stick-Handling
To improve my hockey skills, I practice stick-handling in the morning. Sometimes I feel too tired, but I tell myself, “Just do a few minutes.” Once I start, it usually turns into a longer session. The key is to begin without overthinking, and over time, it becomes a habit.
Prioritize Fun Activities
Instead of doing less practical tasks, I focus on activities that are more useful and practical. For instance, after playing with Fluffy, I often practice hockey. Doing something fun motivates me to stay out of bed and stay active.
Even when I feel like lying down again, I push myself to start. Keeping it simple and short makes it easier to build the habit, and mornings become more enjoyable and productive.
Double the Benefits
This approach helps me:
- Stay Awake: Moving my body keeps me energized.
- Be Productive: I use the time to work on skills like hockey.
Final Thoughts
If waking up early is hard for you, try adding activities you love to your morning routine. Start small and let your body wake up gradually. Staying active makes mornings less stressful and more enjoyable.
With practice, you’ll find that mornings can become one of the best parts of your day.
