When I fall back into people pleasing, I use a few simple self-talk that help me say no kindly without abandoning myself.
1. A gentle way to respond
Instead of saying yes straight away, I say,
“Thank you for asking me, I will think about that.”
It’s honest, kind, and it gives me space to choose what feels right for me.
2. Kindness with balance
I remind myself,
“I can be kind to others, but I also need to look after myself.”
“It’s okay if someone isn’t happy with me, I don’t want to lie to them or to myself.”
This helps me stay authentic while keeping my boundaries.
Small self-talk like this makes saying no and feeling honest.
And every time you choose honesty with yourself, you grow stronger.
