Nothing Lasts Forever—The Key to a Happier Life

Life is constantly changing—nothing lasts forever. Feelings, experiences, relationships, business, and even life itself come and go. The only constants are nature: the sun, waves, ocean, wind, and rain.

The Wisdom of Change

One day, my father told me, “Change is inevitable. Everything fades.” This truth applies to everything:

  • Emotions change – Happiness and sadness come and go.
  • Relationships evolve – Friendships and love change over time.
  • Money is temporary – It flows in and out of our lives.
  • Even nature transforms – Mountains erode, sea levels shift, and civilizations rise and fall.

Accepting impermanence helps me live in the present and let go of unnecessary attachments.

A Personal Lesson on Impermanence

Since my father was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, his perspective on life has shifted. He once believed that money was everything, working day and night to earn more. Looking back, I wonder if his relentless pursuit of wealth contributed to his illness.

Now, he embraces impermanence. He laughs more, dances freely, and takes life lightly. His transformation has made me reflect on my own mindset.

How I’m Learning to Accept Impermanence

  1. Letting go of greed – I remind myself that when I die, I take nothing with me.
  2. Releasing the need to win – It’s okay to fail or lose sometimes.
  3. Accepting loss – Everyone dies one day, including my loved ones. Instead of resisting, I’m learning to accept it.
  4. Embracing aging – Growing old is a natural part of life.

Final Thoughts

Impermanence is a difficult but valuable lesson. The more I accept change, the more peace I find. Life isn’t about clinging to what’s temporary but appreciating the present while it lasts.

What are your thoughts on impermanence? Have you ever struggled with accepting change?
